Who is an Ideal Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

For many women, having children and starting a family is among one of the most rewarding experiences they will ever have. Unfortunately, this can also leave a woman’s body feeling and appearing quite different compared to the one she had prior to becoming a parent. Even with a healthy diet and exercise routine, women might feel like it is near impossible to regain the body they once had, which can be stressful and downright frustrating. That said, there are ways to turn back the clock on your body through a series of procedures that are referred to as a “mommy makeover.”

The mommy makeover seeks to address the effects of giving birth through various procedures, including liposuction, a tummy tuck, breast lift, breast augmentation, and a thigh lift. How can you know for sure if a mommy makeover is right for you?

Below are some of the signs that indicate you are an ideal candidate for a mommy makeover:

You successfully lost the weight first: If you are considering having a mommy makeover done, it is important to get back into shape and lose most of the pregnancy weight first. Otherwise, the effects of some of the procedures might not last. For example, if you continue to lose an excessive amount of weight after having the tummy tuck portion of your makeover done, you might experience loose skin again and require a follow-up procedure to address it. The mommy makeover will address issues like sagging skin and will be able to provide a tighter, smoother appearance to areas like your abdomen and thighs, but it is not a weight loss procedure, so make sure you are at a stable and healthy weight first.

Your child-bearing days are over: If you plan to have children or would like to continue to expand your family, now is not the time to have a mommy makeover since having children will reverse the effects of it. If you would like the results of this cosmetic procedure to last, you should not plan on having any more children.

You underwent C-section: The C-section procedure leaves some scarring around a woman’s belly, which can easily be corrected by the mommy makeover. If you suffered a hernia during childbirth, a mommy makeover can also address this since it affects the same general area.

You gave birth at least six months ago: Childbirth is a traumatic event for a woman’s body and requires at least six months’ worth of recovery time before a mommy makeover can be considered. This also applies to women who choose to breastfeed. Breastfeeding alters the shape of a woman’s breasts, so it is important to wait until they settle into a permanent shape before having this procedure performed.
