VASER®

Enjoy Minimally Invasive Body Contouring with Ultrasound for Westfield, Newark, Jersey City, and Beyond in NJ

While liposuction is a very effective method for addressing unwanted bulges and bulk in specific areas, there is more than one way to accomplish surgical fat reduction. VASER® at NJ's Burnett Plastic Surgery is a minimally invasive option that is gentler on the body without sacrificing results.

By using ultrasound energy to loosen stubborn fat cells, VASER® causes less trauma and preserves other tissues in the target area, which makes for a shorter and easier recovery when compared to more traditional methods.

How Does VASER® Work?

Fat does not float free in the body, so it has to be loosened from where it is fixed in place in order to be removed. Traditional surgical fat-reduction techniques involve the surgeon manually waving a wand back and forth to free the fat cells.

Newer technology has allowed for the introduction of energy—instead of muscle power—to free the fat. SmartLipo, for example, uses a laser to liquefy fat cells.

VASER® takes a gentler approach. First, Dr. Carlos Burnett will fill the treatment area with a specialized solution that firms the tissue. The VASER® device then loosens the fat cells with ultrasound energy, after which they are suctioned away.

What Happens After a VASER® Treatment?

Since fat cells are physically removed from the body, the reduction in volume will be visible right away. As with any procedure, there will be some swelling, so the results will not yet appear "final." There will also be some bruising and tenderness. Despite this, many patients find that they can return to their daily routines—within reasons—in a matter of days.

Everyone heals in their own unique way, but in general, over the next two weeks, the bruising and other side effects will resolve, and the newly slimmer contours will continue to improve in appearance. Dr. Burnett and his team will talk with you about what to expect from your recovery, as well as what you can do to maximize your comfort and healing.

Since the fat cells are removed from the body, there is no concern about them growing larger if the conditions are right. With proper diet and regular exercise—basically, healthy living—you can maintain your VASER® results long-term.

Beyond VASER®

Any procedure that involves fat reduction may be able to incorporate VASER® for a smoother and less complicated recovery. Patients who choose a tummy tuck or Mommy Makeover can ask Dr. Burnett whether they would be appropriate candidates for ultrasound-powered body sculpting.
