How Do You Choose the Most Effective Filler for Your Area of Concern?

What filler should I get for my face? Westfield, NJ-area patients often ask us this when they’re thinking about having injectables to enhance their appearance. This is an important question, because facial fillers aren’t all the same.

Though all fillers available at Burnett Plastic Surgery are injectables that can make a person’s face appear more rested, rejuvenated, and youthful, they each serve a unique purpose—and some of them are intended for use on specific areas of the face. The type of filler that you use will also affect the lifespan of the results.

Since there are seemingly endless options available, finding the one that’s best for the specific area you want to enhance can sometimes be tricky. Wondering what the difference is between each type of filler? Selecting the most appropriate formula will often depend on how much volume is needed. The most suitable choice may be based on the experience and preference of your injector, your budget, and your unique skin nuances.

Here’s a basic explanation about how fillers can be used to improve several areas of the face. While reading them, keep in mind that our experienced team will work directly with you to help you choose the ideal treatment for you.

Fine Lines

The main cause of fine lines on the face is the breakdown of collagen and elastin in the skin. These thin wrinkles can also appear when the skin is dry and are often linked to sun exposure, smoking, and other environmental factors that hasten the collagen breakdown. Hyaluronic acid fillers are often the best treatment for fine lines. A very thin hyaluronic acid filler that can be added superficially into the skin may be most effective.

Thin or Sunken Cheeks

Older skin that has lost a significant amount of volume may require a heavier, more robust filler such as Restylane® Lyft or Juvederm® Ultra Plus.

Nasolabial Folds

Nasolabial folds are narrow indentations that stretch between the sides of the nose and corners of the mouth. Everyone has them—even small children—but they deepen and become more visibly pronounced with age. A filler with a finer particle size and easier flow, such as Juvederm® Ultra and Vollure or Restylane®, will likely work best for these wrinkles.

The team at Burnett Plastic Surgery can guide you as you consider your filler options and more. Call us at 908.233.0200 or fill out a contact form to request an appointment to discuss injectable fillers.
