What is a Brazilian Butt Lift and How Does it Differ From Butt Implants?

Many individuals, particularly in recent years, have become fixated on having the perfect booty. Unfortunately, for some, no matter how many squats and lunges they do, acquiring this body ideal is nearly impossible to achieve. Of course, there are other ways to obtain the perfect derrière, which include butt implants or a Brazilian butt lift. While these both essentially seek to alter the shape of a person’s buttocks, they go about it in vastly different ways and even produce different results.

What Are Butt Implants?

Much like a breast implant, most common butt implants are filled with solid silicone, a highly durable material that resists spilling, rupturing, and deflating from exposure to pressure. They are implanted to add volume to the buttocks. Compared to the results provided by a Brazilian butt lift, the results of this procedure tend not to look as natural and, on occasion, can present complications and risks, including implant movement, fluid collection, and capsular contracture. Additionally, butt implants are not permanent. Patients who under this procedure will have to endure a replacement surgery in the future, usually within 8 to 12 years.

What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?

The Brazilian butt lift is essentially a fat transfer procedure that uses a patient’s own fat to enhance the buttocks. Fat is generally harvested from the abdomen, thighs, back, and flanks in a liposuction procedure. The harvested fat particles are purified and injected into the fatty and muscle layers to produce the desired volume. Since the Brazilian butt lift does not involve the use of implants, the results not only look more natural, but feel more natural and do not require any additional surgeries in the future. There are also no risks of capsular conjecture or implant rupture and, through the process of harvesting fat, patients experience even better results.

Of course, some fat transfer procedures are limited by the survival of fat since some implanted fat cells are unable to survive and are reabsorbed by the body’s immune system. Therefore, occasionally, more than one fat transfer procedure might be required for a patient to get the desired results.
