Sientra -The New Silicone Gel Implant

The decision to have a breast augmentation surgery is an important one. Maybe you have a vision in mind of how you would like to look with breast implants. Maybe at this point you have already discussed the topic with a friend, spouse or other family member. This is a great start! However, to achieve the best results, it takes time and some research to have a more successful experience. You should familiarize yourself with the entire process—from your first consultation, to the preoperative visit, and post surgery checkups. This way there are no surprises and you know exactly what to expect. The following are some suggestions:

The Initial Consultation

The most important resource is your plastic surgeon. Here at Burnett Plastic Surgery, Dr. Burnett always begins the visit by asking the patient what your goals are with the surgery. He will explain the risks and benefits, take pictures and measurements and discuss realistic outcomes which will best provide the results you desire. He is meticulous about ensuring that your body type, breast tissue and breast volume allow for the goals of surgery. We will also provide you with a quote for surgery.

When you go home after the consultation, you can view the pictures taken during the consultation on TouchMD, in which your information is kept secure and personal. You can share the pictures and discuss the plan with your loved one. You will also find information about various surgeries on the website.

What is A Silicone Gel Breast Implant?

A silicone gel breast implant is a sac ( implant shell) made of silicone rubber which is filled with a cohesive gel. They come in different shapes, sizes and textures suited for the individual’s needs and desired outcome. Since the mid-1990’s, this new generation of silicone, eliminates the previous issues with silicone migration and low incidences of complications such as capsular contractures. Silicone implants are softer and feel more natural than saline-filled breast implants. We provide implants from various manufacturers such as Mentor and Allergan, but we are very excited to now have the new FDA approved, cohesive gel implant from Sientra.

Preparing For Breast Augmentation Surgery

Once you have made the decision to have the surgery, you will come in for an appointment to review what was discussed at the initial consultation. At this point Dr Burnett will address any questions or concerns you may have. Intra and post operative instructions will be reviewed as well.

Breast Augmentation Recovery

Since the surgery is performed under general anesthesia, patients experience some fatigue for the first few days. Pain medication will be prescribed for soreness as well as Arnica, which is a homeopathic remedy for bruising and swelling. You will also be wearing a compression bra to support the breast in its new position. We encourage patients to maintain a proper diet and to take a good multivitamin, Vit C and zinc for incision healing. This is a time to relax, get plenty of rest and ease back to your normal routine gradually. Adherence to our recommendations will ensure optimum results from your surgery and many years of satisfaction.
