Male Abdominoplasty

Tummy Tuck for Men in New Jersey

A tight, flat stomach is a feature that men often work toward with diet, an active lifestyle, hours at the gym, and plenty of crunches. However, it can be difficult for individuals to achieve this desired feature without help from an abdominoplasty. New Jersey plastic surgeon Dr. Carlos Burnett explains to his patients that the challenges preventing a flatter belly could be due to changes in weight or genes passed down from your parents. Add to those the fact that many of us spend more time sitting than being active, and our midsections can take a hit.

Today, more than ever, men are searching for a surgical answer to help them get back their youthful body physique. Male abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces extra skin and fat tissue. The surgery can also help improve the strength of the abdominal muscles, leading to a tighter and more defined waistline.* Dr. Carlos Burnett has helped countless patients improve their waistline and increase their self-confidence with this procedure, also known as a tummy tuck.

Who is an Ideal Candidate for Abdominoplasty?

A wide range of individuals with various body types can benefit from an abdominoplasty procedure. Men seeking the surgery do need to be in overall good health and have the right expectations for the surgery. Anyone who wants to remove pockets of fatty tissue or excess skin from the stomach or who wants to address a protrusion of the stomach might consider this surgical approach.

Having a major weight loss victory is something to be celebrated, but can also bring mixed emotions as men deal with excess skin hanging in the abdominal region. An abdominoplasty can be the perfect final step to remove and tighten excess skin that has lost its elasticity.

What to Expect from the Abdominoplasty Procedure

This surgery is usually an inpatient procedure with an overnight stay. Before an abdominoplasty, patients will undergo an initial consultation with Dr. Burnett to discuss their concerns and desired results. He will also counsel patients about how to prepare for the surgery, which may include weight loss and stopping certain medication prior to surgery.

Prior to an abdominoplasty, patients will receive instructions on how to care for their abdomen, what activities to engage in or avoid, and how to manage pain or soreness. Most patients can expect to return to the bulk of their daily activities after approximately one week. However, strenuous workouts should be avoided until Dr. Burnett is sure you are properly healed.

Types Of Male Abdominoplasty

Mini Tuck

This procedure removes small areas of excess skin below the belly button. The small incision is low on the torso, so the resulting scar can easily be covered with clothing. Mini tummy tucks tighten muscles from the belly button down to the pubis.

Standard Tuck

This procedure removes excess skin and pockets of fat, as well as tightens the underlying muscle. The incision on a standard abdominoplasty is done in a curve from hip bone to hip bone, just above the pubic hair line.

Extended Tuck

This procedure is similar to a standard tuck, but also removes excess skin around the hips and sides. Liposuction can also be performed if there is too much excess fat.

Candidates for this male abdominoplasty are men who wish to have excess skin on the abdomen and hips removed. Men must be in overall good health with no underlying medical conditions. The surgery itself can take anywhere from three to eight hours, depending on the extent of the procedure.
